Getting and Configuring the latest Netscape
- Getting/Installing Netscape if you have a direct network connection
- Make sure you entered your username when prompted by Windows at start up
- Go to START, FIND, COMPUTER, and specify SHOVELER
- Double Click on SHOVELER when it finds it
- Double click on the W95STUFF folder
- Finally double click on NS.EXE (may appear as just NS)
- Getting/Installing Netscape if you connect to the network using a modem
- Go to START, RUN, \windows\FTP FTP.CNSS.SWT.EDU
- Enter "anonymous" for username and guest as the password
- type BIN for binary, LCD C:\, hash, GET ns.exe
Example session:Connected to shoveler.cnss.swt.edu. 220 shoveler Microsoft FTP Service (Version 3.0). User (shoveler.cnss.swt.edu:(none)): anonymous 331 Anonymous access allowed, send identity (e-mail name) as password. Password: 230-For access to SWT PRIVATE site license software see the file swtpriv for information! 230 Anonymous user logged in. ftp> cd w95stuff 250 CWD command successful. ftp> bin 200 Type set to I. ftp> lcd c:\ Local directory now C:\ ftp> hash Hash mark printing On (2048 bytes/hash mark). ftp> get ns.exe It will take a while (hour or so) to download the newest version.- Finally Double click on C:\NS.EXE after it is downloaded
- Configuring Netscape
- Double click on the Netscape icon on your desktop
- Go to EDIT, PREFERENCES, MAIL AND GROUPS, click on Mail
- Make both the incoming and outgoing servers are set to: academia.swt.edu
- Next enter your VMS username for the mail server user name
- Decide if you want messages left on the VMS sytem or removed and how often you want it to check for mail.
- Click on Identity and fill in your name and Internet address ([email protected]). Leave the reply to address blank (unless you want replies to go somewhere else) and enter an organization like SWTSU. Finally click on OK.
- Click on GROUP Server and enter news.swt.edu as the news server.
- Next click on Navigator, and then set the home page to www.swt.edu to use SWT's home page. Click on OK.
